School District

The firm's school district unit represents numerous public school districts in Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester Counties.  The unit defends school districts in not only personal injury cases arising out of claims of negligent supervision of students and negligent maintenance of school district property but also in cases alleging civil rights violations.  The civil rights cases include claims of violations to Title VII, ADEA and the ADA, litigated in the State and Federal Courts as well as before administrative agencies including the EEOC and the State Division of Human Rights.

The unit is comprised of Maureen Casey and Janice Berkowitz, both partners in the firm's Albertson office.

Normally, the attorneys handle their cases from the notice of claim stage through to ultimate resolution at trial. When there is a significant incident or potential for a claim, the attorneys will be involved in the early stages to ensure that the matter is fully prepared for litigation. This has allowed for the development of strong working relationships with many of our school district clients who have been represented by the firm over the years.
