Dental Malpractice UnitAs part of the Professional Liability Unit, Ahmuty, Demers & McManus has a Unit which consists of John A. McPhilliamy, D.D.S., which is responsible not only for civil actions brought against dentists in both the State and Federal Court system, but also represents them in claims brought by the State administrative agencies, such as the New York State Department of Education-Office of Professional Discipline and the New York Human Rights Commission. John A. McPhilliamy, D.D.S., J.D., a partner at the firm, graduated from Creighton University School of Dentistry, Omaha, Nebraska in 1987. While practicing dentistry full time, he attended the evening program at St. John's University School of Law and obtained his J.D. degree in 1991. In 1991, he began to practice law on a full-time basis while still maintaining a small private dental practice. He is admitted in the State and Federal Courts of New York, New Jersey and District of Columbia, as well as is licensed to practice dentistry in those jurisdictions. He has lectured to and made presentations to not only the local Dental Societies and International Dental Societies, but also to several professional liability carriers as part of their Risk Management Seminars. In addition to handling civil claims involving dental malpractice, he also handles matters before the New York Office of Professional Discipline, Human Rights Commission and claims involving medical malpractice and allied health and long-term care facility malpractice. The law firm handles dental malpractice claims in all jurisdictions serviced by the firm.
